With the bass spawn underway in southern areas and starting shortly in more northern areas, catching bass of beds while sight fishing may be one technique you want to try. Here are 5 important tips to remember while sight fishing for bass:
1. Patience- As with all fishing patience is key. Most bedding bass aren’t going to eat the first thing that you throw. Stay patient.
2. Versatility- If the bass don’t seem to be interested in anything your using, don’t be afraid to switch up your selection. Try to stay away from heavier lures.
3. Quiet- Remember to stay back and stay quiet. Startling a bass off a bed isn’t going to help you catch anything. Use your polarized sunglasses to your advantage.
4. Slow- Keep the bait in a bedding bass’s strike zone for as long as possible. Just running the lure past/over a bed isn’t enough to get a bass to eat it.
5. Careful- Probably the most important. Fishing for bedding bass is a very controversial subject. If you are going to fish for a bedding bass please try your best not to disrupt the beds. Any fish caught should be put back as quickly and closely to the nest as possible.
