As is usually the case in every industry, something popular will eventually be copied and differentiated to make a quick buck. In this case it’s the frog umbrella rig by Castaic. This rig is wrong for so many reasons I don’t even know where to begin. First off when has anyone ever seen 4 frogs swimming in pattern? Secondly all those swivels must make this rig pretty hard to fish in heavy cover. I don’t know about you, but I don’t know if I’d trust any of those connections in terms of standing up to a couple of frog bites. Lastly what happens if you get more than one bite? Even a solid frogging setup would have trouble hauling more than 1 fish out of heavy cover, never mind 2 or 3. Between your pole, line, reel, knots, swivels and legs the odds that something would give out seems to be pretty high. Seems a better idea just to stick with a single frog for your frogging needs.
